This week, Jacob Medlin sat down with Helen Brunt, the Regional Migration and Displacement Coordinator in the Asia-Pacific for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Together, Jacob and Helen discussed the increasing threat of human displacement in the South-Asian country of Bangladesh, which is thought to be one of several countries placed at immediate risk by increasing extreme weather and sea-level rise.

We'd like to extend our thanks to Helen Brunt for her participation in this weeks episode.

 and author Paddy Manning on his latest book, Bodycount: How Climate Change is Killing Us.

A veteran, award-winning journalist, Manning has previously worked for the ABC, Crikey, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review and the Australian. Manning has previously authored three books: Born To Rule: The Unauthorized Biography of Malcolm Turnbull., What The Frack: Everything You Need to Know About Coal Seam Gas, and Inside the Greens: The Origins and Future of the Party, the People and the Politics.

Manning's latest book revisits some of the countries most devastating extreme-weather events in the countries recent history, as well as exploring the lesser-known impacts of Climate Change around the country in an attempt to measure the toll these disasters have had on the community, as well as discuss how we can better prepare for them in the future.

Episode 20: Vaccine Nationalism

This week on the Zed Dispatch: Alana KT brings you the latest news before Tom and Joseph unpack vaccine nationalism and how it continues to affect Australia's vaccination efforts.

Vaccine nationalism occurs when governments sign agreements with pharmaceutical companies that privilege their population over other, disadvantaged countries.

With skyrocketing cases of Coronavirus occurring worldwide, the ever-present risk of dangerous mutations emerging demands a vaccine campaign that, like the virus, transcends national frontiers.

To learn more about vaccine nationalism, we spoke to Dr Jeremy Youde, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Dr Youde is an internationally regarded expert on global health politics and prolific academic, having authored five books and numerous articles. Additionally, Dr Youde was an associate professor within the Department of International Relations at the Australian National Universities' Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, serving as deputy director.

Later on in the program, we spoke with Trent Twomey, National President of the Australian Pharmacy Guild, the national representative body of Australia's community pharmacy network. Community pharmacies form crucial nodes in the Australian healthcare system, providing services and even vaccinations in numerous jurisdictions around Australia. Consequently, Mr Twomey was able to offer us great insight into Australia's vaccination rollout.

Finally, to gain a federal opposition perspective on the Morrison governments vaccine rollout, we got in touch with federal Labor member for Griffith, Ms Terri Butler, who raised the concerns held by herself and the Labor surrounding Australia's vaccine efforts.
