This week on Tranzmission, Ez and Bette speak with specialist sexual health physician Dr Stuart Aitken, one of Queensland’s most experienced clinicians in gender‑affirming care. Stuart reflects on the origins of the Queensland Children’s Gender Service, how the first multidisciplinary gender clinic for trans youth was built, and what it took to shift a health system that had never been designed with trans young people in mind.

Stuart also discusses current research connected to the establishment of the gender clinic, including work from psychologist Olivia Donaghy’s PhD — a series of four studies developed alongside the clinic’s creation GeMS: Gender Mapping Study 2017–2021. Bette & Stuart explore how this research fits into the broader evidence base and why it matters for young people and families seeking care.

It’s a thoughtful, in‑depth discussion with one of the country's leading clinicians who helped shape the landscape of trans health in Queensland, and a look at what comes next for young people, families and the community.

This week on Tranzmission, Ez (he/him) sits down with Associate Professor Nicola Dean (she/her), one of Australia’s most respected reconstructive surgeons and a leading voice in improving access to gender‑affirming healthcare. Nicola’s career spans decades of surgical excellence and advocacy. As former President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Nicola has worked at the forefront of strengthening surgical standards and pushing for equitable access to care including gender‑affirming surgeries (GAS). A big, thoughtful, and nuanced conversation about surgery, systems, and the future of gender‑affirming care in Australia. In this episode, Nicola and Ez unpack:

- What gender‑affirming surgery actually looks like in Australia right now

This week on Tranzmission, Ez sits down with a truly singular artist: UK‑based singer‑songwriter Dylan Holloway, known to audiences as Dylan and the Moon. Dylan’s work spans a rich catalogue of original music and reimagined covers, but what sets him apart is his ability to braid his personal journey into his sound. As a transgender musician, he’s crafted haunting duets between his pre‑transition and post‑transition vocals—melding past and present into an intimate exploration of identity, memory and transformation.

What the NDIS!?

Tranzmission returns this week with Ez (he/him) sitting down with Matilda Alexander, CEO of Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion, to break down the sweeping changes proposed for the NDIS. Matilda explains in clear, grounded terms who will be most affected by the shift to stricter functional‑capacity assessments, what it means for trans and gender‑diverse people with disability trying to access disability supports, and why the new legislation hands extraordinary executive powers to the Federal Health Minister to decide who can and cannot enter the Scheme. It’s a conversation about rights, transparency, and the real‑world consequences of policy decisions made far from the communities they impact.

Ez also speaks with Annabelle Oxley (she/her), a trans woman, NDIS participant and long‑time advocate, who shares how these reforms land on the ground for LGBTQ+ disabled people already navigating discrimination in mainstream services. Annabelle’s lived experience cuts through the political noise, reminding listeners that behind every policy shift is someone’s daily support, safety, and autonomy.
